What is a cookie?
A very small text file managed by your web browser. A website can ask for one or more cookies to be stored in your browser and they often contain details like your user id and/or simple preferences. It can can only be read by the website (domain) that gave it to you.
A cookie's purpose
To help a website recognise you or react to your preferences. For example, it might be used to remember who you are and keep you logged in to a website or to react to preferences (e.g. that you normally shop for a particular brand of clothing).
You'll often find websites provide information about cookies including:
- Cookie name name of the cookie which is being dropped
- Purpose the reason for the collection of the data
- Scope which websites (domains) can read it
- Duration the length of time the cookie will be stored
- Data held the type of data held within cookies
Cheetah Experiences (Wayin) Cookies
When viewing an experience as a consumer, the following cookies are set:
Cookie name: ngx
- Purpose To help identify suspicious activity and prevent fraud during entry
- Scope The wayin.com domain
- Duration 1 year
- Data held Contains a unique, randomly-generated, identifier
Cookie name ngx_v
- Purpose To help identify suspicious activity and prevent fraud during voting
- Scope The wayin.com domain
- Duration 1 year
- Data held Contains a unique, randomly-generated, identifier
Cookie name: ngx.auth.redirect
- Purpose For some experiences, users can login using a social network or our customer's own login system. This cookie helps us return the user back to the right step in the experience after they have logged in.
- Scope The wayin.com domain
- Duration 30 minutes
- Data held Contains the URL that the user will be returned to after signing in
Cookie name ngx.auth.redirect.provider
- Purpose For some experiences, users can login using a social network or our customer's own login system. This cookie helps identify the social network or website provider that the user logged in with.
- Scope The wayin.com domain
- Duration 30 minutes
- Data held Contains the name of the social network or website provider
