Introducing: Progressive Data Capture
You know what your customers have done in the past, but do you have the data to know what they are going to do in the future? It is entirely possible for marketers to collect this preference data, that is intentionally and proactively shared directly with you by the consumer. This is what we call zero-party data.
Zero-party data allows brands to build direct relationships with consumers, and in turn, better personalize their marketing efforts, services, offers, and product recommendations. As it comes directly and willingly from the consumer.
When interacting with your customers on a regular basis, it's best to avoid inconveniencing them with repeated questions and opt-ins. With this release, we will enable marketers to build a fuller profile for each customer by asking questions gradually, over time, based on what we do or do not know about each individual customer.
With progressive data capture, gradually build out user profiles as they return to the same campaign. Show only unanswered questions to encourage completion. This will allow marketers to build richer profiles over time.
How it works
Customers can enable experience-level filtering for certain fields that help collect profiling data. When a known user returns to enter the same experience (when your experience is set up to accept daily or unlimited entries) all previously answered progressive fields will be hidden from the experience.
Fields that support progressive data capture are:
- Multiple choice
- Data dropdown
To enable this setting:
- Ensure that your experience is set up to accept Daily or Unlimited entries
- Navigate to the Form Designer
- Add one of the fields above to the form
- In Settings of each field, under Filtering, enable Progressive filtering as shown below:
If your experience is set to use Remember Me, we will ask the user for their email address first and then determine what to show on the subsequent form. If you're not using Remember Me, we will determine what to show based on previous entries made by the current browser instance.
Progressive data capture as an addition to multiple opt-in filtering
The new progressive data capture fields (multiple choice, checkbox, dropdown, and data dropdown) add to our growing list of progressive data features. Our existing multiple opt-in field already supports progressive filtering: Opt-in selections will be remembered per user and, if previously selected, will be hidden for subsequent entries, which can be used to optimize longer lists of opt-ins.
Multiple opt-in filtering has a number of additional settings that we will be looking to introduce for progressive data capture fields, based on customers' feedback and preference.
Multiple opt-in filtering differences from progressive data capture fields filtering:
- Can be filtered based on whether the user has opted-in in the current experience or globally
- Can be filtered based on the day of the week
- Filtering can be ignored for the first entry made by a user into a new experience
